Face-off with Max Kellerman - Mayweather vs Ortiz

On September 17th live at the 17000-seating capacity MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada will be the return of the biggest money-maker in boxing, Floyd Mayweather. He steps into the ring against the southpaw with real hand-speed and punching power, coming off a win in a fight of the year type of brawl - no, not Manny Pacquiao - this guy is bigger than Floyd Mayweather and he is in his 20s not his 30s; he is "Vicious" Victor Ortiz.

In the Face-off with Max Kellerman, Mayweather was asked why it took him so long to be back in the ring. Floyd is out from the sport for 16 long months - his last fight was against ring veteran "Sugar" Shane Mosley in May 2010. He is eager to fight again in the sport of boxing and it won't be on a tune-up fight. He always say he wants to "fight for the fans".

Victor Ortiz last fought in April 2011 acquiring the WBC Welterweight Belt of Andre Berto; this will be the same belt he will defend against Mayweather on September 17. Floyd saw that fight on ringside and he believes a fight against Victor will give the boxing fans an entertainment.

Mayweather vs Ortiz is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, Mayweather Promotions and HBO-PPV.

Press Tour Video of Mayweather and Ortiz

Before Floyd Mayweather Jr and Victor Ortiz laces up their gloves to fight in the bright lights of Las Vegas, HBO followed both boxers across the United States to prepare for one of the biggest fights of the year. From the heart of the big apple in New York City to Los Angeles, California both fighters hyped up their upcoming clash by telling everyone what a good fight this is going to be.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz fight is promoted mainly by Golden Boy Promotions and HBO-PPV. It will be a big boxing event this coming September 17 inside the luxurious MGM Grand Hotel and Casino. The WBC Welterweight of Ortiz will be on the line.

After 16 months of inactivity from the sport, undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr is still considered as the best pound for pound boxer in the world today. He has won 41 fights with 25 knockouts and the only person who came close to beating him was Oscar dela Hoya. That fight ended in a SD (Split Decision) Victory in favor for Floyd.

See how the great superstar and the young champion relentlessly promoted their fight - including a few scuffles - just to show the world that this will be a mega-event.

Erik Morales may fight Jorge Barrios in the undercard while young Mexican Star Saul Alvarez will fight Alfonso Gomez inside the Staples Center. And yes, the Mayweather vs Ortiz mega-event will be a one-of-a-kind two-venue PPV fight. The fight will happen on a weekend after the Mexican Independence Day because Mexicans are always expecting a high-caliber boxer to fight on this day - this time it will be the prospect star Saul Alvarez.

The massive crowd during the Mayweather vs Ortiz Press Tour was a clear indication that the MGM Grand Arena will be a sell-out. HBO-PPV (pay-per-view) buys will also be huge because of the impact of Mayweather's entertainment factor.

See the video of the press tour of Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz and tell us what you think about the upcoming fight.

Morales may fight Barrios in the Mayweather-Ortiz undercard

In his last ring appearance, against Marcos Rene Maidana of Argentina, Erik "El Terrible" Morales (51-7, 35 KO) showed the world that even at the age of 34 years old he still has the power and speed comparable to a much younger boxer. Even though he lost, he exhibited his skills and telling everyone that he is still an entertaining fighter.

It was previously announced that Erik Morales would be facing Anthony Crolla (21-2, 9 KO) of the UK on the Mayweather vs Ortiz Undercard which will happen on September 17 in the Sin City. But as the days gone by, Golden Boy have initially decided to go for Jorge Barrios, a much tougher and more experienced fighter than Crolla.

Erik Morales, the last boxer to win against Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao (next fight: Pacquiao vs Marquez), was previously scheduled to fight Jorge Barrios in December 2010. Because of the legal issues of Jorge from leaving his country, Morales decided to fight Francisco Lorenzo, a much easier boxer.

Since the legal issues of Barrios to fight in the US have been finally resolved, he may fight Erik Morales inside the luxurious MGM Grand Arena.

If the Morales vs Barrios fight will be finalized, it will be for the vacant WBC light welterweight title. Erik Morales is highly expected to win this bout but Barrios may be too much for him. If Erik wins this bout, he might face Amir Khan in December because both of them are under the flag of Golden Boy.

Mayweather vs Ortiz Teaser Video

Less than two months to go before the Mayweather vs Ortiz bout will finally happen atop the ring inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In one of the biggest boxing events of the year, undefeated Floyd Mayweather will fight against defending WBC (World Boxing Council) Champion Victor Ortiz for the latter's welterweight belt. Floyd Jr is highly expected to win this fight - a fight which many believed to be a tune-up fight for Mayweather for his much awaited fight against Filipino boxing star Manny Pacquiao who is scheduled for the Pacquiao vs Marquez fight on November 12.

On August 27, HBO (Home Box Office) will give the full first episode of the multi-awarded 24/7 reality TV series. This will be the same evening when Marcos Maidana faces Robert Guerrero in the Junior Welterweight division.

Below is a preview of the forthcoming four-episode 24/7 reality TV series of the Mayweather vs Ortiz bout.

After 16 months, Floyd finally returned to the ring. This time he is more than anxious to face someone who is near his caliber.

Ortiz last fought the then undefeated Andre Berto. He was the underdog of that fight but after he showed Andre what he's got, the boxing fans tagged him as one of the best welterweights today.

Step into their lives before they step into the ring. Be sure not to miss the full episodes of HBO 24/7. Visit this site more often and share it on Facebook and Twitter so you and your friends will be the first to know the latest news and updates.

Amir Khan wants to fight Mayweather vs Ortiz winner

Amir "King" Khan recently won against Zab Judah in a match where many believed will be a testing ground for Khan's soft chin. Amir's only loss was against Breidis Prescott in September 2009 via a shocking 1st round knockout where a solid heavy blow by his opponent hit his chin.

If given the chance to fight the winner of the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight, Amir would surely step up because he knows he has a huge chance to win against any of them. With celebrated trainer Freddie Roach on his side, Amir Khan is already tagged as one of the prime boxers in the light-welterweight division - arguably next to Bradley.

Undefeated American Timothy Bradley is still in front of Amir Khan in the ratings. He currently holds the WBC and WBO belts while Amir Khan is holding the WBA and IBF versions.

Khan is not afraid to fight Tim Bradley and he knows there is a huge possibility that they will clash later this year or early 2012.

Amir, a compatriot of Filipino Congressman and Boxing Star Manny Pacquiao (see: Pacquiao vs Marquez), is humble enough to say that he is not yet on the level of either Mayweather or Pacquiao. He wants to fight Mayweather next but he knows he is not yet as popular as Pacquiao. If he is not given the chance by Golden Boy Promotions to fight the undefeated Floyd Jr, he wants to fight Bradley to unify the belts and be hailed as the number 1 in his division.

If a Mayweather vs Khan fight will happen, it will surely be at the 147-lb division. Mayweather has no problem in this weight because he has been winning championship belts at the welterweight but Khan will be tested at this division.

On September 17, the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight will finally happen and most fans are already excited to watch the fight dubbed as Star Power: Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz which will be televised on HBO-PPV. If you check the tale of the tape, there's no significant difference between the two. Floyd is expected to win this fight but anything can happen against "Vicious" Victor Ortiz.

After fighting Ortiz, Mayweather will still be undefeated

No doubt, Mayweather will win his fight against Ortiz this coming September 17 at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in the Sin City. The fight will be televised via HBO PPV and tickets are already on sale. Even if you check the Mayweather vs Ortiz tale of the tape, there are no huge difference between the two - the big thing that separates Floyd and Victor is the experience.

Undefeated American Floyd Mayweather Jr is the more experienced boxer between the two. Even though many questioned him why he didn't fight Miguel Cotto or Antonio Margarito, he is still one of the best in the sport. His speed and power is comparable to Manny Pacquiao and the only thing left for Mayweather to have the greatest honor in the sport is to defeat the Filipino fighting congressman.

Mayweather don't care if he burns a $100 bill because he knows after his fight he will get a hefty amount and return home with the WBC (World Boxing Council) Welterweight belt currently held by his opponent.

Ortiz has nothing to lose in this fight. Aside from getting a huge amount of money, he will become a bigger draw in the sport because he fought one of the best pugilists there is.

Roach believes that Mayweather may fight Amir Khan next after his fight against Ortiz because he is just too afraid to fight Manny Pacquiao.

In the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight this coming September 17 Floyd will surely win against the younger Ortiz.

Mayweather's tune-up fight won't be similar to Marquez's

The fight between Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. and "Vicious" Victor Ortiz won't be close to similar to the recent tune-up fight of Juan Manuel Marquez against Likar Ramos.

Even though Floyd Mayweather Jr and his solid followers don't consider his upcoming fight as a tune-up fight for the upcoming much anticipated mega-showdown against Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines, many still believe that he chose Ortiz because he is a southpaw like Pacquiao.

A tune-up or not a tune-up, the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight will definitely not end in the first round. Many tagged Mayweather as a boring boxer because he covers himself most of the time with his shoulder roll defense, but for the many boxing analyst out there, they believed Mayweather is unstoppable even against Manny Pacquiao.

Floyd Mayweather is highly expected to win his fight against Ortiz this coming September 17 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. Victor Ortiz will be a very difficult opponent for him in the early rounds but in the middle to late rounds, it will be all Floyd.

The recent tune-up fight of Marquez against Colombian Ramos was sensational for the Mexican boxing icon but it was not very entertaining for the thousands of people who watched the fight. It only ended in one round and Ramos had to be rushed to the hospital for medication.

Marquez is scheduled to fight Manny Pacquiao next and the fight will be on November 12 at the MGM Grand. Pacquiao is expected to win but Marquez has a high chance of winning too. Let's see if Pacquiao and Mayweather win in both their fights and they face each other next.

Ortiz has nothing to lose against Mayweather

Victor Ortiz, after winning against Andre Berto in April 16, 2011, is now dubbed as one of the most elite boxers in the Welterweight Division. He lost two times in his entire professional boxing career and another two of his fights were scored a draw. He will fight Floyd Mayweather Jr this September 16 inside the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas and he will defend his WBC Welterweight Belt, the same belt he got from Andre Berto in his last fight.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz fight, dubbed as Star Power will be televised via HBO pay-per-view and many are expecting a large output in terms of PPV and gate receipts from this fight because Floyd Mayweather Jr has not fought since winning a lopsided fight against Shane Mosley in May 2010.

Ortiz has everything to gain and nothing to lose in this fight. Mayweather is the heavy favorite and he is expected to win this fight. At the age of 34, he is still undefeated and no one can defeat him at this time of his career. He is still at his prime and both his speed and power are still at the maximum level.

Victor Ortiz will surely get a hefty amount after the fight. His paycheck will be more than enough to make him happy even though he will lose against the undefeated Mayweather in September. Ortiz is eyeing Pacquiao after Mayweather. If he luckily wins against Floyd, he will fight him again in a rematch, but if he loses, both of the fighters will move forward and seek another opponent.

Manny Pacquiao, a congressman in the Philippines particularly in the province of Sarangani is scheduled to fight Juan Manuel Marquez this November 12, also at the MGM Grand Arena. If he wins against Marquez, he wants to fight Mayweather next.

"Vicious" Victor Ortiz won't have any chance at winning against Floyd Mayweather who has fought prime boxers including Oscar dela Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Zab Judah among many others. Aside from getting a large amount, he will also get the experience and a video tape to study for his next fight. He is a young, talented fighter who has the will and power to change the game... But against Floyd? His skills may not be enough at this time.

Mayweather, set a $100 bill on fire, could be in trouble

Undefeated American Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. could be in big trouble after photos of him emerged online showing him setting on fire a $100 bill. It was reported that the incident happened during a party with Lil Kim and Gucci Mane in Atlanta.

Photo Credits: TMZ / Prince Williams / ATLPics.net

Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. placed the money on flames in the Velvet Room nightspot during the weekend. The pictures have been posted on TMZ, showing him setting the bill on fire. According to bystanders Mayweather was also seen playing with his stacks of cash.

It is unlawful to burn money and Floyd Mayweather could be in big trouble.

He may be investigated for the crime. If any of the federal law-enforcement officers decide to pursue an examination, Mayweather could face up to six months in jail, and, mockingly, a $100 fine.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz fight could be in jeopardy. The fight may not happen is Floyd is placed in jail for 6 long months. His fight dubbed as Star Power: Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz, to be televised at HBO PPV, will be happen in 2 months.

The HBO 24/7, reality TV series will debut this August 27 and the development of this series could be affected if Feds decide to investigate one of the best boxers of all-time, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Roach: Mayweather won't fight Pacman after Ortiz, maybe Khan

Celebrated trainer Freddie Roach believes that Floyd Mayweather Jr will never fight his most-prized ward, Manny Pacquiao, after the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight dubbed as Star Power: Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz to be televised at HBO PPV with a reality TV series 24/7 which will debut on August 27.

Roach is favoring Floyd Mayweather to win against "Vicious" Victor Ortiz on September 17. He believes the undefeated former pound-for-pound king will win via stoppage. But after that fight, he don't see any possibilities of Floyd facing Pacman. Manny Pacquiao, a congressman in the Philippines, is also scheduled for a Pacquiao vs Marquez fight on November 12. If both boxing stars win their respective fights, it makes the most sense to finally settle the mega-fight between Floyd and Manny.

The problem is that both camps have their own protocols. The boxing fans can't do anything about it unless the promoters - Top Rank and Golden Boy - and the boxers - Floyd and Manny - will finally agree to everything in the contract.

Roach fells that Mayweather may not choose to fight Pacquiao because his zero is at risk when he fights him. The Michigan native may choose to fight Amir Khan, who also trains with Freddie Roach, for his next fight.

Amir Khan, the current WBA 140-pound champion is scheduled to the Khan vs Judah fight this July 23 and if Amir wins, his chances at getting a crack at Floyd will be high. Khan is confident the fight will happen in a year because, like Pacquiao, he is also a big draw in the sport.

"I don't think Mayweather will ever fight Manny Pacquiao,” Roach said. "[Team Khan] have a better chance of getting Mayweather into the ring than Manny. If the fight (Mayweather-Pacquiao) was going to happen, it would've happened already." said Roach in a report by Boxingscene.com.

Victor Ortiz (born January 31, 1987, Garden City, Kansas) is a Mexican-American professional boxer and the current WBC World Welterweight Champion.

On September 17, 2011 at the luxurious MGM Grand Garden Hotel and Casino in the Sin City, the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight will entertain not only the sell-out crowd watching inside the 17,000-capacity Arena but the entire world because Golden Boy has finally decided to the fight on HBO PPV.

Before we see the fight dubbed as Star Power, let's compare the two pugilists based on the tale of the tape.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz tale of the tape will give a glimpse to the boxing fans and analysts on what will happen when Floyd and Victor fight for the WBC Belt which the latter won against Andre Berto in his last fight.

Floyd Mayweather Jr, 34 years old, is 10 years older than Victor Ortiz. Both boxers are rated at the highly acclaimed Welterweight Division (147 lbs). Floyd is an Orthodox while Victor's boxing stance is Southpaw.

The height advantage of Victor Ortiz is only 1 inch higher, at 5'9" (175 cm), compared to Floyd's 5'8" (173 cm) height. But this will not be much of an issue with both boxers as they are already comfortable against someone with a height difference of 1-4 inches. Mayweather Jr. has a slight reach advantage of 2 inches over Victor's 70 inch reach.

"Money" Mayweather has a clean record of 41 wins, no losses and no draw. He has scored 25 knockouts from those wins. He is a ring veteran who has boxed 299 rounds and his KO percentage is 60.98%. "Vicious" Ortiz lost twice in his professional boxing career. He has won 29 fights, 22 of which are knockouts and he has 2 draws. He is the least experience boxer compared to Floyd. Even though his KO percentage is much higher than Mayweather at 66.67%, his total number of rounds boxed is only 145.

Rematch clause on fight between Mayweather and Ortiz

According to Michael Marley of Examiner.com, "Vicious" Victor Ortiz agreed to a rematch section in order to get the September 17 fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand Garden Hotel and Casino.

Victor Ortiz will defend his WBC Welterweight Belt against Floyd in a fight which doesn't have any "catch-weights", unlike most of Pacquiao's recent fights. He also hopes to fight Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao next year if he is able to win against the undefeated boxer from Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Ortiz is definite that he will win against Mayweather in September. Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, also agrees that Ortiz will be the first boxer to beat Mayweather Jr.

In the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight, Floyd is the heavy favorite as of this writing and there's no way the odds will turn in favor of Victor. After his fight against Marcos Rene Maidana, many thought that Ortiz was not mentally ready to fight the big fights. In his recent fights prior to fighting Andre Berto, his opponents were clearly handpicked by his promoter so he can become one of the main boxers of the promotional company.

In his win against Andre Berto, Ortiz was then tagged as one of the most dangerous pugilists today. His speed and power is clearly not comparable to Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather but blatantly promoting it may do the trick.

The Ortiz vs Mayweather fight will be televised on HBO PPV and a Mayweather vs Ortiz: 24/7 reality TV series will start on August 27 to help promote the fight. Mayweather may be off from the sport for a long time but there's no way Victor can win against him. If ever Victor wins, he will fight Floyd Jr. again in a rematch and if he wins in the rematch, a fight against Manny Pacquiao will be immenent.

Schaefer hype: Ortiz will beat Mayweather

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Golden Boy Promotions, Richard Schaefer, insists that "Vicious" Victor Ortiz will defeat Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. on September 17, 2011 at the Luxurious MGM Grand Garden Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

"I don't think the (Mayweather vs Pacquiao) fight is going to happen. And I don't think that it's not going to happen because Mayweather doesn't want to do it or Pacquiao doesn't want to do it....or the split or the drug testing. I'll tell you what's going to be the reason on why the fight is not going to happen. The reason is - Victor Ortiz is going to beat Floyd Mayweather." said Schaefer in an interview with Boxingscene.com.

Millions of boxing fans all over the world badly wants Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr to face each other in a mega-fight after their respective fights in fall. Pacquiao, a congressman in the Philippines, is set to face Juan Manuel Marquez (Pacquiao vs Marquez) on November 12, if Marquez wins his tune-up bout this coming July 16 against Likar Ramos.

Many believed that the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight will be a tune-up for Floyd because, like Pacquiao, Victor is a southpaw which has speed and power in his arsenal.

Golden Boy Promotions badly wants to promote this fight so everyone will be happy with their paychecks. Blatant or sensational promotion includes telling the world that the undefeated, ex-pound-for-pound king and ring veteran Floyd Mayweather will be defeated by the younger Victor Ortiz.

The HBO 24/7 Mayweather vs Ortiz will start on August 27 to help promote the forthcoming fight which they dubbed as Star Power.

"Victor is in an amazing position. He is able to face the best fighter in the world. A fighter who hasn't fought in 16 months [by the time of the fight] and has had a lot of distractions outside of the ring that he's had to deal with. Let's face it, he can't hurt Victor Ortiz, but Victor can hurt him," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com's Luis Sandoval.

Schaefer told the media that he is confident Ortiz will be the first to score a loss to Mayweather's clean record and the fight between Manny and Floyd won't happen in 2012.

HBO 24/7 Mayweather vs Ortiz starts August 27

The reality TV series HBO 24/7: Mayweather vs Ortiz will start on August 27. This is the best way to promote the much anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Victor Ortiz titled as "Star Power".

HBO 24/7 is a 14-time Emmy Award winner because of its awe-inspiring ways to feature the lives of the boxers. This will be its 10th time to promote a mega-fight and fans are expecting new ideas and techniques in the ways the production team will handle the promotion.

As announced by Ross Greenburg, president of HBO Sports, there will be an all-new four-episode, all-access series which will debut on Saturday, August 27 (10:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT). The HBO 24/7 series will go behind two elite fighters in one of boxing’s most cutthroat divisions as they prepare for their captivating pay-per-view face-off at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 17, 2011.

"The return of Floyd Mayweather, with his larger-than-life personality, and the odyssey of Victor Ortiz, with his inspiring tale of perseverance and achievement, provide the perfect backdrop for this new edition of '24/7'. " said Ross Greenburg in an interview with Boxingscene.com. "24/7 excels when there are great characters and compelling drama, and this fight has both."

The Mayweather vs Ortiz 24/7 Episode 2 will be on the following Saturday after the first episode. It will be on September 3 (10:00-10:30 p.m.) and the 3rd Episode will be on September 10 (10:00-10:30 p.m.). The 24/7 last episode will be on Friday, Sept. 16 (9:00-9:30 p.m.), the night when Mayweather and Ortiz tip the scales and the night before the mega-welterweight bout.

All four episodes will have multiple replay dates on HBO, and the series will also be available on HBO On Demand and HBO GO.

Erik Morales on Mayweather vs Ortiz Undercard

Erik "El Terrible" Morales has finally declared his next fight. He will be part of the undercard of the much-discussed fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Victor Ortiz this September 17 on HBO pay-per-view.

Erik Morales (51-7, 35 KO), the last pugilist to win against ring icon Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines, will fight UK lightweight Anthony Crolla (21-2, 9 KO). The fight is expected to be at the 140-pound weight class.

In his last fight against Marcos Rene Maidana, Erik Morales showed the world that he still has the power and speed even at the age of 34. He gave Maidana a hard-fought fight after suffering a hard-punch, which led to the large lump on top of his eye, in the first few rounds of that fight. He was tagged as brave and fearless after that battle and many Mexicans were proud of his performance even though he lost.

Anthony Crolla, 24 years old , won the vacant British lightweight in February.

Many deemed this Morales vs Crolla fight as peculiar. Golden Boy Promotions, owned by Oscar dela Hoya, should have chosen a better fighter for Morales. But even though this will be a sure win for Erik, this fight in theory will help draw the faithful and big-spending Mexican audience for the pay-per-view fight featuring the Mayweather vs Ortiz WBC Welterweight Championship.

Young Mexican boxing star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez who last won against Ryan Rhodes last month is also likely to be part of the undercard of the fight titled as "Star Power: Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz". His fight won't happen inside the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, it will be in Mexico where a huge number of Mexican boxing fans expects a big fight on a weekend after their independence day. Alvarez appears headed for a fight with either Alfonso Gomez or Ricardo Mayorga, who last lost to Miguel Cotto.

The undercard of the Ortiz vs Mayweather fight will surely give more boost to the ticket and pay-per-view sales. Golden Boy has finally settled with HBO PPV to promote and televise the mega-fight so it's more likely that they will surpass the numbers of the Pacquiao vs Mosley showdown.
