Team Floyd Mayweather, Jr & Team Victor Ortiz are headed to NY (New York) today for the Star Power Press Conference on Tuesday at Hudson Theater 11AM. After the press conference, both team will head to LA (Los Angeles). They'll be at Nokia Plaza at LA Live at 7PM.

Both stops are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! Tomorrow Golden Boy Promotions will announce how you can win VIP passes when you arrive at the press tour so stay tuned!

Promotional tour kicks-off June 28

The national media promotional tour of the upcoming fight between Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. and "Vicious" Victor Ortiz will start on Tuesday, June 28. The two-city press conference will start in New York followed by a stop in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 29.

Victor Ortiz will defend his WBC (World Boxing Council) Welterweight Belt against undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr on September 17. The fight venue is not set yet because Golden Boy Promotions have been discussing with MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, at the moment. In the next couple of days, Schaefer will reveal where the upcoming super-fight will go - but it's most likely to be at the MGM Grand Arena where Floyd Mayweather fought his last four fights.

Schaefer also hopes that a deal with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will be finalized. They wanted him to be in the undercard of the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight because he is a possible next opponent for Floyd if both of them win their respective fights.

The venue of the Alvarez fight will be different even though he is in the undercard. If ever a deal is settled, the fight will happen in Mexico because that day falls on the weekend of Mexican Independence Day where many Mexicans expect to see a Mexican boxing star in a fight.

Golden Boy also wants to add Erik Morales in the Ortiz vs Mayweather undercard. He is a former three-division world champion and one of the three boxers who won against boxing icon Manny Pacquiao.

"If we can get Canelo and Morales both on the pay-per-view, I think the sky's the limit of what we can do in pay-per-view," Schaefer said in an interview with ESPN.com. "That would make it an even bigger event for the fans."

Star Power: Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz

Golden Boy Promotions, through main promoter Richard Schaefer, has finally revealed the title of the upcoming fight between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz. The title of this big boxing event which will happen on September 17 will be "Star Power".

Schaefer said that they will use "Star Power" as the name of the fight because Mayweather is the biggest star in boxing today and Victor Ortiz is one of the most explosive guys in boxing because he can knock anybody down.

Floyd Mayweather last fought in May 1, 2010 against "Sugar" Shane Mosley and won in the lopsided bout. Mosley never had another chance at pulling an upset after that 2nd round right hook which he landed in face of the undefeated fellow American.

Victor Ortiz last fought in April 16 this year against then undefeated Andre Berto. Many thought that Andre will win the fight via KO in the first few rounds but Ortiz proved them wrong. He was relentless in showing what he's got and his heart as a boxer was really seen during that fight.

On September 17, in the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight, many will surely watch both Stars in the boxing world. Mayweather is one of the biggest draws in boxing today and his fights usually lands in the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, even though an agreement was not finalized yet.

The upcoming super-fight will be televised via HBO PPV and a 24/7 reality TV series will help in hyping up the fight so Ortiz won't become a heavy underdog.

Floyd Mayweather vs Ortiz will be on HBO PPV

Golden Boy Promotions and HBO PPV (Home Box Office-Pay Per View) has finally settled the agreement to televise the fight between undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr and current WBC (World Boxing Council) Welterweight title holder, Victor Ortiz.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz fight may be one of the most discussed fights today. Many boxing analysts believed that Victor does not have enough physical and mental strength to fight the best boxer in the world (next to Manny Pacquiao?). Ortiz's skills will not be enough for Mayweather.

As part of the promoting the fight, Richard Schaefer and Oscar dela Hoya always assures the fans that this will be the most entertaining boxing event in history. With the help of HBO in promoting the fight through the multi-awarded reality TV series, 24/7, among many others, the fight will surely be a "bang" in the boxing world.

"We have finalized our deal with HBO. We obviously had very intense negotiations," Schaefer told ESPN.com. "What we wanted to do is ensure that all the different Time Warner (HBO's parent company) assets will be in play one way or the other, including the Turner Broadcasting assets and the Time Inc. assets, which is their magazines."

Schaefer believes that HBO is motivated to be more aggressive in promoting a big-time event because they don't want to lose to their competitor, Showtime, which televised the Manny Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley fight last May 7. That fight wound up doing about 1.3 million PPV buys, which many expected to turn out much higher because of the help of CBS.

If the Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather agreement came to a closure it could have been the biggest PPV event in boxing history. But since Manny will be fighting against Juan Manuel Marquez this November 12 and Floyd Mayweather will be fighting Victor Ortiz this September 17, the question will be, who between Manny and Floyd will have the higher PPV buys?

"We wanted to make sure all other assets that HBO has available will be fully utilized to support this fight and give it the widest possible exposure," Schaefer said in an interview with ESPN.com. "I am very happy that HBO Sports and HBO senior management were very open and that we had productive conversations, which fell on open ears. HBO seems very motivated and excited to show the world what they can do utilizing their vast array of assets."

Schaefer said Showtime was also interested in promoting the Ortiz vs Mayweather fight but a deal couldn' t be finalized. He also said that the title of the fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Victor Ortiz will be "Star Power."

"Mayweather is the biggest star, and Victor Ortiz is one of the most powerful guys in the sport. He knocks everybody down," Schaefer said to ESPN.com. "You have a star fighting a guy with great power. You have a guy in Mayweather who attracts star power. You go to a Mayweather fight and it's a who's who showing up. It's 'Star Power.'"

Ortiz skills will not be enough for Mayweather

On September 17, Victor Ortiz will take on Floyd Mayweather for the WBC (World Boxing Council) Welterweight Belt in a fight with a weight limit of 147 lbs.

Many analysts and boxers deemed Ortiz's skills not enough for the high-caliber abilities of Floyd Mayweather Jr who has an undefeated record since his professional boxing debut in 1996. Victor won five of his last six fights - the other one was a draw to Lamont Peterson in December 2010 - after the 6th round TKO loss to Marcos Rene Maidana in June 2009.

Even though his power and speed were evident in his last fight against the then undefeated Andre Berto last April, "Vicious" Victor Ortiz will have a hard time dealing with the defense and power of the undefeated Michigan native.

Floyd Mayweather is undoubtedly one the best boxers today. He has an undefeated record and the only one who came close to winning against him was Oscar dela Hoya in May 2007 where the fight was scored a SD (split decision). That fight got the highest PPV (pay-per-view) record to date at 2,400,000 buys. He has won against premier boxers including Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Ricky Hatton, Carlos Baldomir and Juan Manuel Marquez.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz fight may be considered a tune-up fight for the upcoming mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao but Floyd should be very careful against this opponent. If Floyd's performance against Ortiz will be similar to his fight against Marquez, this will surely be a lopsided fight.

The younger Ortiz will have no chance at Floyd Mayweather on September 17. Only mere luck will give him the win against the villain of the sport who never showed up in his recent deposition in a lawsuit filed by Manny Pacquiao, a congressman in the Philippines, for defamation.

Do you agree that the abilities of Victor Ortiz will have no match against Floyd Mayweather?

Boxing doesn't need Mayweather vs Ortiz

And you already know why... Boxing badly needs Mayweather vs Pacquiao and not Mayweather vs Ortiz.

On September 17, 2011, Floyd Mayweather, 41 wins (25 KOs) - 0 loss, will fight against Victor Ortiz, 29 wins (22 KOs) - 2 losses - 2 draws, in the United States. Assuming the fight will happen in Las Vegas, Nevada, will the venue be sold-out? maybe, probably because of Floyd's name. Is Victor Ortiz enough to give both boxers additional incentives from the PPV buys? I don't think so.

Boxing fans want to see Floyd Mayweather fight Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao. Many believed the undefeated American is dodging the fighting congressman from the Philippines to avoid any dirt in his clean record.

After fighting Shane Mosley in May 1, 2010, Floyd said in one of an amateur interview that he will take a break from the sport after two long years. Is he going to fight back every 16 months or longer? Can someone tell him to fight twice or thrice a year?

Floyd is one of the most exciting and unbeatable boxers today. His slick defense makes him draggy to watch sometimes but it is what boxing is all about. He is the most intelligent boxer ever and no one has ever damaged his beautiful face during a match - that's why he got the moniker "Pretty Boy".

"Vicious" Victor Ortiz will defend his WBC (World Boxing Council) welterweight title in the Ortiz vs Mayweather fight. He will be a good match against Floyd Mayweather but he will not be a sell-out and never going to create a solid buzz. The good thing about this fight for Ortiz is that he is going to be more popular and he is going to have the biggest paycheck in his entire boxing career. The fight is awesome for Ortiz, but is it for Mayweather? surely not. But if this fight leads to a fight against Manny Pacquiao in the second quarter next year, this tune-up fight may be what Floyd and his fans need. Do you think after Mayweather wins this fight (as expected) is going to announce that he will fight Manny Pacquiao next? maybe.

Manny will fight in the Pacquiao vs Marquez 3 on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. If both Pacquiao and Mayweather win in their respective fights, it would probably make the most sense to finally settle the mega-fight which was already discussed 2 years ago.

Mayweather vs Ortiz on September 17

After a long break from the sport, Floyd Mayweather Jr decided to fight Victor Ortiz on September 17 in the United States. There's no final venue yet but both camps are planning to hold the fight inside the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz fight will be live via pay-per-view. Since the fight is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions owned by Oscar dela Hoya, there's a big possibility that HBO will televise the fight and promote it through their 24/7 reality TV series featuring the lives and training sessions of both pugilists.

Boxing fans all over the world badly wants Floyd Mayweather Jr to fight Filipino boxing icon, Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao already agreed to the random blood and urine testing for performance enhancing drugs such as steroids but both camps did not agree to the protocol. This is one of the reasons why Floyd settled for Ortiz.

After fighting Shane Mosley in May 1, 2010, Floyd Mayweather Jr has been silent in the boxing world. He has pending cases and court hearing which includes fight over his ex-wife in front of their children, poking an officer and defamation against Manny Pacquiao.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz fight will be for the WBC Welterweight Title. "Vicious" Victor Ortiz, who has a record of 29 (22 KO) wins - 2 losses - 2 draw has been very impressive in his last fights. He last lost to Marcos Rene Maidana in 2009 but in his recent fights he has been very entertaining. He last fought in April 16, 2011 against the then undefeated Andre Berto and won an impressive unanimous decision.

Floyd Mayweather is one of the most impressive boxers of all time. He has fought big names in boxing including Oscar dela Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Carlos Baldomir, Zab Judah and Juan Manuel Marquez (see Pacquiao vs Marquez 3). He has a perfect record of 41 wins (25 KO) - 0 losses.

On September 17, the boxing fans will surely watch this thrilling match. Victor Ortiz is a hard-puncher with a speed comparable or even much better to Floyd Mayweather. Floyd's advantage will be his slick defense, power and counter-punching ability.

Personally, I think Mayweather will win this fight via unanimous decision, what do you think?

If Mayweather wins and Mexican Saul "Canelo" Alvarez wins the Alvarez vs Rhodes fight, it will surely make sense for Mayweather to fight Alvarez if he does not want to fight Pacquiao.
